Laser Maintenance Class
The laser maintenance class is intended to teach people how to diagnose and fix commonly-occurring problems with the small laser cutter.
This page provides materials used for past sessions of this class. By all means add new material here; just take care to not modify old material. Instead, change the "transclude" links to point to new content instead of old.
This description contains all of the information needed for an EventBrite posting.
Course Title: Laser Maintenance
Event Time/Date: 1pm-5pm (previous version held on 01 Oct 2017)
Price: $25 / $30 / $50 (members, associates, non-members) (students must already be authorized to use the laser)
Attendance Cap: maximum of 6 people
This course teaches the procedures for routine maintenance for the small laser.
For optics, this includes how to check alignment of the mirrors and of the red laser, how to check for dirty optics, how to clean the lens and mirrors without damaging them, how to align the mirrors, and how to align the red laser.
Besides optics, this includes how to check for and fix problems with the air system, what to do if the limit switches don't work, how to replace the limit switches, how to check for and tighten loose screws in the translation stage, and how to maintain the grille that workpieces rest on.
After taking this course, you will be authorized to check and fix any of these issues whenever the laser is misbehaving. While I try to do this myself every two weeks, I won't always be around, so having a larger pool of maintainers on call is useful.
You will have a hands-on opportunity to try each of these activities during the course.
You must already have been trained to use the laser.
(No material or equipment is needed for this course. Some way of taking notes is recommended; likewise taking pictures.)
(Please eat ahead of time so that we can get right into course material.)
